RIUDAVETS

Worn by locals and island vacationers alike, including the Royal Family of Spain, in many ways the traditional Avarcas sandals mirror what Menorca is all about: simplicity, comfort and respect for the environment. Established in the early 1920’s, the third generation family-run Avarcas Riudavets are known for authenticity, durability and a proper fit. Comfortable and hand-made from premium Spanish leather they still carry many characteristics of those worn yesterday: a classic tire sole made of 100% recycled rubber; a fine suede inner lining; greased leather and a hidden border stitch.

The first Avarca has its origins in the Menorcan countryside where the land is dry and hard. Given these conditions, the Menorcan villagers needed shoes, which were strong and flexible and yet simple in design. They soon found that the Avarca was the ideal shoe for this purpose; it kept their feet cool and comfortable. Over time, Menorca’s economy changed. As farm tasks were mechanized, many laborers moved to the island’s towns in search of new trades. Bep de Binixems was one of these laborers; he is the grandfather of the third generation of José Riudavets SL, a family business and one of the key names in the history of Menorcan Avarcas. Bep worked for many years on the farm before leaving the countryside to learn the trade of shoemaking.

 JOMMI LIM

After a fortuitous colliding of worlds, Joomi Lim, a free-spirited and self-taught adventuress from Seoul and Xavier Ricolfi, an industrial designer from Paris, hit it off right off the bat. Sharing a love for design, they decided to join forces in 2009 to launch the first collection of their high fashion-jewelry line, Joomi Lim.

No stranger to the business, Joomi arrived at jewelry by way of her previous careers as a make-up artist and owner of globally recognized brand, Joomi Joolz. Meanwhile, Xavier had been working on cutting-edge projects for French enterprises like S.T. Dupont, E.D.F., Valois and Grey Advertising. His career took a sharp turn when he met Joomi and together they discovered a new calling.

Together, the team's unique design sensibilities converge to create a line of trail blazing jewelry that defies convention. Joomi’s eye for style and lively spirit injects femininity and playfulness into the designs like intricate crystal motifs and unexpected pops of color. Xavier’s background as an industrial designer informs his approach to design, adding unorthodox materials, finishes and innovative technologies as an essential and distinct aspect of their jewelry. The result is a line of fresh designs featuring sleek spikes, pyramids, spheres and titanium coatings. Chic pearls, crystals and effervescent colors round things out to create the perfect balance. Their jewels are hard yet soft, sweet but tough, punk yet glam– the perfect juxtaposition of styles for those who want to stay ahead of the curve.

Their jewelry has graced the pages of numerous esteemed publications such as Vogue, W Magazine, Jalouse, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar. Joomi and Xavier are currently designing their newest collection of jewelry in their Garment District studio with their fashion-forward, mini dachshund Sadie. Each piece is proudly designed and handmade in New York City. Their unique luxury designs can be found at select, high-end retailers around the world.

Well this weekend wasn't is  particularly that great, but I ran out of choice. I had to get out and take some photos with my love . I woke up 8am this morning to get ready and rushed out to Meka Street to take some photos , meka Street is one of the main street in laayoune City. It gets really crowded here everyday, and would be difficult to do a shoot after 11am. I‚Äôm also not too keen to do a photoshoot with a big crowd
